Anna Álvarez has closed an unforgettable summer with a new international title. The Levante UD youth player was crowned U-20 World Champion with Spain after also winning the U-19 European Championship last July.

The girl who dreamed of being called up for the U-20 World Cup is now a World Champion. After a perfect tournament, where every match ended in victory, and after defeating North Korea in the penalty shootout of the final, the Spanish U-20 National Team was crowned once again. Among the 20 players called up, Anna Álvarez represented Levante in Poland, the host country of the tournament: "I am the happiest girl in the entire world. It’s a mix of feelings that cannot be described. Everything I’ve felt this month so far from home and yet feeling so at home. I’m super happy and super proud to say that I am a world champion."

The path to the title was marked by daily hard work and a bond that grew stronger during the weeks of training camp. The goalkeeper from Peñíscola highlighted precisely that connection among the team members: "We wanted to win the tournament, and we wanted to win it together, and that was evident in every match: how it was built day by day, with every training session, with every match, how time passed, and we became a family, all together, all united."

The penalty shootout was the most tense moment of the final. Anna Álvarez experienced each shot with great nervousness from the sidelines: "I couldn't take it anymore, I wanted to pull my hair out. You can see in the footage that none of us knew who was having the hardest time. In the end, Laia was there in the goal, and we all trusted her one hundred percent, that she was going to make the save and make us world champions." And that's how it was. At the moment of lifting the trophy, the Levante goalkeeper thought about the entire journey she had taken with her teammates: "I think about the whole journey, everything we've been through to get to that moment, everything we've done, everything we've experienced together, and it's something indescribable."

The celebrations continued afterward in Poland and Madrid, before the academy player returned to work with Levante UD. The World Cup capped off a summer of two titles, and Anna is already clear about her next goal: "Here, we already know that I am a world champion, but I have a very clear goal: to be a Levante player. We give it our all day after day, doing whatever it takes to achieve our goals in all competitions."
