Levante UD falls just short of opening their account in Vitoria.
Deportivo Alavés 2-1 Levante UD
Levante UD was close to opening their points tally in the first match of the league competition. Deportivo Alavés took the lead, Levante equalized the match, and in injury time, the home team scored the second and final goal to secure the victory.
The first half unfolded with the home team controlling possession of the ball and Levante UD making timid approaches to the opposing area. Julián Calero's team, well-positioned on the field, tried with crosses from the wings that found no finishers. Meanwhile, the team from Vitoria attempted their luck with set pieces, through free kicks near the area, without any consequences. A few minutes past the half-hour mark, after a good combination play by the granota team, Iván Romero's shot ended up in Sivera's hands.
Alavés' response came quickly, just two minutes later, with a corner kick that, after Pablo Campos' clearance, Carlos Aleñá took advantage of by delivering a cross for Toni Martínez to head it into the back of the net. During the early minutes of the first half, the team from Vitoria tried to extend their lead with several consecutive corner kicks. The score remained unchanged, and the 1-0 stood on the scoreboard as the players headed to the locker rooms.
After the restart, both teams struggled to create dangerous chances in the opposing area, but Julián Calero's side was more accurate. A shot by Roger Brugué was saved by the goalkeeper, and the rebound was seized by Toljan to score the equalizer. After the goal, Levante did not settle. Despite this, Pablo Campos was forced to intervene on a couple of occasions following a shot by Mariano and later another by Rebbach.
In injury time, Deportivo Alavés scored their second goal after executing a free kick. Tenaglia finished at the far post to make it 2-1.
