The Juvenil A full-back made his official debut with Atlético Levante UD and scored the decisive 0-2 against CD Español de San Vicente.
Joan Gimeno experienced a special Saturday with his official debut for Atlético Levante UD. The Juvenil A full-back came on in the 80th minute during a challenging match against CD Español de San Vicente and, in added time, scored the goal that sealed the 0-2 victory for the granotas.
Although he had already played minutes with the reserve team during preseason, the first official call-up of the season gave him the chance to take a new step forward. Joan Gimeno received the news the day before the match, after training with the team: "It was very unexpected because I trained with them just the day before, and the coach told me I might be included in the squad," the player explained, expressing that he was "very happy" to make his debut.
The call-up also came with the excitement that such an opportunity brings. The footballer admitted he felt "a lot of joy and a bit of nerves," though he managed to face the moment calmly. For Joan, these minutes with Atlético Levante UD represent an opportunity to continue progressing within the granota structure. "In the end, this is what we hope for. We’re always with the youth team, and those steps forward are worth it," he remarked.
His debut had an outcome that was hard to imagine when he stepped onto the pitch. Joan came on in the 80th minute, replacing Javi Alonso, and played as a winger during a final stretch where the score remained tight. But it was he who, in added time and after a great pass from Nurgali, took advantage of the space to face the opposing goal and secure the definitive 0-2. "I saw Aldi controlling the ball, noticed the space, and decided to run. Then I saw the goalkeeper was off his line, tried to shoot to one side, and luckily it went in," he recounted about his goal. A goal that capped off an unforgettable day for the full-back, who also highlighted his teammates' reaction after a tough and tense match between the two teams: "In the locker room, we were all very happy, and the celebration was really beautiful," he recalled. An official debut with the granota reserve team, complete with a reward for Joan Gimeno, who made the most of his first minutes this season to contribute to a victory and continue taking steps in his development.
