Carlos Espí strengthens the Levante faith
Levante UD 2-0 Deportivo Alavés
Team and fans achieved a victory of great value at the Ciutat de València Stadium after uniting during the week under the motto "I believe." The connection between the stands and the players was crucial to earning much more than three points. Carlos Espí, with a brace in the final minutes, secured the triumph for the granota team.
The match began with intensity. The first clear chance came in the 9th minute, after a cross from Paco Cortés that Carlos Álvarez finished with a lob. The ball went over the crossbar. The visitors responded in the 22nd minute with a corner kick that tested Ryan. The Levante goalkeeper made a double save after the first shot by Pablo Ibáñez and the second by Blanco from the edge of the box. The goalkeeper flew to deflect the ball's trajectory.
Deportivo Alavés tried again after the half-hour mark through Boyé and Aleñá, but Dela cleared the ball practically off the goal line. In the final moments of the first half, Levante UD responded with a powerful shot from Iván Romero that Sivera sent to a corner.
After the break, the granota team returned to the pitch determined to tilt the match in their favor. They almost succeeded after an assist from Paco Cortés to Carlos Álvarez, whose shot hit the right post. Luis Castro's team intensified the pressure, while the Vitoria side was reduced to ten men in the 61st minute after Parada received a second yellow card.
With a numerical advantage, Levante UD fully committed to the attack and brought the fans to their feet on several occasions. First, after a shot by Olasagasti that Sivera deflected at the last moment. Then, Carlos Espí came close to scoring with a bicycle kick inside the box, but the goalkeeper prevailed once again. The azulgranas strung together several consecutive corner kicks and besieged the opponent's area, though the reward remained elusive. The key was to not give up or lose patience.
The Levante players continued working to find the precision needed to turn their pressure into goals. Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute. Carlos Espí headed the ball, which rebounded off a defender, fell back to the forward, and this time, he sent it into the top corner, igniting the stadium. The Ciutat turned into a cauldron. In injury time, Etta Eyong assisted Espí, who made no mistake and sealed the final 2-0, confirming a victory as hard-fought as it was celebrated for Levante.
