Levante UD takes another step towards staying up.
Levante UD 2-0 RCD Mallorca
Levante UD experienced another magical afternoon with their fans at the Ciutat de València. The Granota team hosted RCD Mallorca in a direct clash for survival. With nearly 23,000 spectators at the Levante stronghold, Carlos Espí and Kervin Arriaga scored the goals in a very important victory that allows the Valencians to take another step towards safety.
The opening minutes made it clear that both teams had a lot at stake. The match was played with great intensity, but neither team managed to reach the opposing area with clarity. The visitors took possession of the ball, but the Granota team remained very solid and barely allowed any space for their opponent to get near the goal defended by Ryan. The Levante players tried to capitalize on their opportunities and attempted a cross from Iker that Carlos Espí narrowly missed heading.
The Valencians' goal came just past the half-hour mark. Carlos Espí took advantage of an error in RCD Mallorca's ball distribution, stole the ball, charged towards the goal, and put his team ahead on the scoreboard. The visitors responded quickly, and just five minutes later, Ryan took center stage with a great save, deflecting Luvombo's shot to a corner.
The first half ended with Levante UD leading on the scoreboard.
After the break, the Azulgranas had a chance to extend their lead with a shot from Iván Romero that went just wide of the right post. The visitors did not give up and tried to take the initiative, although Luís Castro's men responded with quick transitions, looking for Carlos Espí. Meanwhile, the crowd at the Ciutat cheered tirelessly.
Both teams were reduced to ten men on the field after red cards were shown to Roger Brugué and Mojica. Shortly after, Arriaga sent the crowd into a frenzy by sending a corner kick from Olasagasti into the back of the net. In the final seconds of injury time, the referee awarded a penalty to Levante UD, but Dela's shot hit the crossbar.
In the end, the victory stayed at home, and the Levante players extended their good run, securing their third consecutive win and moving closer to their goal of survival.
