Levante UD has reached an agreement with Martín Cáceres for the player to join the Levante club until the end of the season, with the option of one further season. The centre-back will arrive on transfer from Cagliari, at no cost to the Orriols club.
José Martín Cáceres Silva (4/7/1987, Montevideo) arrived in the Spanish league in 2007, from Defensor Sporting, to join Villarreal CF. He played on loan at Recreativo de Huelva and in 2008 he signed with FC Barcelona. A year later, he was loaned to Juventus and later to Sevilla FC. After passing through LaLiga, he went to Italy to defend the Juventus shirt until 2016. His next destination was England where he played for Southampton, and in 2017 he returned to Italy to play for Hellas Verona, Lazio, Juventus, Fiorentina and Cagliari.
Martín Cáceres has been proclaimed League champion seven times: in 2009 with FC Barcelona and in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019 with Juventus. Furthermore he gained the title of champion of the King’s Cup in 2009 with FC Barcelona and that of the Italian Cup in 2015 and 2016 with Juventus. He was also champion of the Super Cup in 2011 with Sevilla FC and the Super Cup of Italy in 2013, 2014 and 2016 with Juventus. Similarly, he won the Champions League in the 2008/2009 season with FC Barcelona.
The defender is an international with the Uruguay National Team with whom he played in the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups and was proclaimed Champion of the Copa América in 2011. Currently, he is playing in the qualifying matches for the Qatar World Cup .
The player will join Levante after completing his commitments with the Uruguayan team.
