The 39 clubs in LaLiga not invited to be part of the European Super League strongly reject this proposal

LaLiga met today with the 39 clubs who were not invited to be part of the European Super League in order to discuss the recent proposal to form this competition.

The clubs present were unanimous in strongly rejecting the plans to create this league. All the clubs strongly believe in sporting merit as the sole criterion for qualifying for international club competitions through the respective national leagues.

Currently football fans across the whole of Europe can dream that their club, whatever its size, could excel in competition, rise to the top, and compete at the pinnacle of European football. This European tradition whereby football for all prevails is paramount and that must not be threatened or modified.

Opposition to the proposal that has emerged globally in recent days has shown that a closed and elitist European league is unworkable and unwanted. The reactions seen right across Europe demonstrate how important an open association is for football and its relationship with the fans.

LaLiga and the clubs that met today want to thank everyone involved for the support they have shown this week on this key issue for the future of football.

LaLiga will continue to work with stakeholders, including fan groups, the government, UEFA, the RFEF, the AFE and the European Leagues to protect the best interests of the game and ask clubs that remain involved in the proposed competition to cease their participation immediately.
