Levante UD continues celebrating the Year of Vallejo, an event commemorating the centenary of the inauguration of the historic granota stadium, which opened its doors in November 1925. Throughout 2026, the club has been developing various initiatives aimed at recovering and highlighting the memory of a fundamental venue in the history of Levante.

Following the historical talk held last January, the Portal de Vallejo once again becomes a meeting point to remember that iconic stronghold. This time, the story will be told through the experiences of three footballers who share a common bond: Salvador Mut, Nicolás Clavel, and Ernesto Lapiedra played at Vallejo defending the Levante UD jersey.

Three careers and three different perspectives that will evoke the sporting life of Vallejo, from its last matches to its role as a venue for training future generations of granota footballers.

Salvador Mut and Nicolás Clavel: from Vallejo's farewell to the debut of the Ciutat

The presence of Salvador Mut and Nicolás Clavel will allow the recovery of one of the most significant moments in Levante's recent history: the transition from Vallejo to the then Antonio Román Stadium, now Ciutat de València.

Salvador Mut was Levante's goalkeeper both in Vallejo's farewell match against Tenerife and in the friendly match against Valencia CF that served to inaugurate the new stadium. His role in that transition takes on special significance considering he was Levante's regular goalkeeper during the 1969-1970 season. That season marked the debut of what is now the Ciutat.

Mut joined Levante with extensive experience, having played in the First Division during his time at Sevilla FC. Joining the granota team near the age of 30, he remained active until the end of the 1972-73 season, which concluded with Levante's return to the Silver category. His name holds a prominent place among the goalkeepers in the club's history.

Meanwhile, Nicolás Clavel joined Levante from Acero at just 19 years old. His blue-and-red career spanned four seasons, extended to five campaigns linked to the club after his loan to Ceuta during the 1968-69 season.

A positional defender, Clavel also left his scoring mark at Vallejo, where he scored two goals wearing the Levante jersey. One of the most memorable chapters of his career came in the 1966-1967 season when Levante dreamed of returning to the First Division. That team led the standings for several weeks in an intense battle with Málaga, although they lost momentum in the final stretch of the championship.

Among the curiosities of his time at Vallejo is his participation in a defense that, with Catalá in goal, managed to keep a clean sheet throughout the first half of that season.

Ernesto Lapiedra: Vallejo, a school for footballers

Ernesto Lapiedra's relationship with Vallejo offers a different perspective, tied to his formative years as a footballer.

Lapiedra progressed at Vallejo from the youth categories to Levante UD's reserve team. His leap to the first team would occur at the Ciutat de València. The historic granota stronghold remained linked to his early steps in football and a period during which, from the youth ranks, he also had the opportunity to train with the first team.

His testimony will provide insight into Vallejo as a space for learning and athletic growth, a venue that accompanied various generations of Levante footballers before making the leap to professional football.

Three distinct careers and a shared memory that will allow the recovery of the atmosphere, experiences, and stories of Vallejo through the eyes of its own protagonists.
