Atlético Levante UD has kept a clean sheet in three of the four matches played so far.
The Levante reserve team has achieved three clean sheets in the last four matches, the most recent being in the 0-2 victory against Villarreal C. Asier Herrera, the goalkeeper who stood between the posts at the José Manuel Llaneza Sports City, highlighted the collective effort that underpins this defensive solidity.
The Atlético Levante UD goalkeeper approached the match with the level of commitment required against an opponent that was still unbeaten. "We knew we were facing a team that was in good form, doing things well. We had to push ourselves a lot to secure the victory. And that's what happened. The team did things well, worked hard in the match, and in the end, the reward came", he stated.
Asier Herrera had work to do between the posts, but he knew how to respond when Villarreal C threatened his goal. Just before halftime, the goalkeeper prevented a goal with a great save from a corner, and after the restart, he made another key block down low. "I felt good. With the confidence of my teammates and the coaching staff, everything is much easier", he explained.
The clean sheet against Villarreal C marked the third consecutive one for Atlético Levante UD. Three out of four matches played so far, a statistic that reflects one of the reserve team's defining traits. But far from taking all the credit, the Levante reserve team goalkeeper shared the merit across all lines: "It's the work of the whole team. It's true that it shows in the defensive line, but, in the end, it starts with the forwards, who are the ones that begin the pressing, and they make everything much easier for us when the ball reaches the goal."
In recent weeks, Asier Herrera has also experienced working with the first team, being included in matchday squads for games such as those against FC Barcelona and Villarreal CF. An opportunity that Asier cherishes as "an experience every child dreams of having." "Being in the stadium and feeling the support of the fans is an experience I will never forget", he added.
