Levante UD achieves its first victory at Montilivi
Girona FC 0-4 Levante UD
Levante UD, after several matchdays coming close to victory, achieved their first win of the season during their visit to Montilivi. Etta Eyong, Carlos Álvarez, Iván Romero, and Koyalipou were the scorers for the Levante team.
The "granota" team took the initiative in the match, although the home side was the first to try with a shot from Joel Roca that hit the side netting. Five minutes into the game, Levante UD tried their luck with a cross from Roger Brugué that Iván Romero headed wide. Despite having greater possession of the ball, the Valencians struggled to reach the opponent's area clearly. For their part, Girona FC tried again near the half-hour mark with a free kick taken by Asprilla that Ryan punched away.
The home team was reduced to ten players after Witsel's expulsion in the 30th minute for a second yellow card following a tackle on Unai Vencedor.
Levante UD came close to opening the scoring after a corner kick that ended with Roger Brugué's header. The ball hit the left post of the goal. However, Etta Eyong managed to score three minutes before the end of regulation time, following a good play by Carlos Álvarez. The Andalusian passed it to Toljan, who crossed, and Etta Eyong's header found the back of the net. Girona FC responded in injury time with a powerful shot from Álex Moreno that resulted in a corner kick.
After the restart, Girona FC was reduced to nine players following Vitor Reis's red card for a tackle on Carlos Álvarez. The midfielder took the resulting free kick and sent the ball into the back of the net, extending the lead on the scoreboard. Levante UD came close to a third goal shortly after with an inside pass from Carlos Álvarez to Roger Brugué. The forward's shot resulted in a corner kick. Iván Romero also had a chance. After receiving an assist from Carlos Álvarez, his shot hit the post, but he persisted and managed to score shortly after. He did so following a good combination between Toljan, Etta, and Iván Romero himself. In injury time, Koyalipou scored his first goal for the "granota" team.
