The Levante UD forward returned to the pitch against Athletic Club and did so with a goal.
Etta Eyong smiled again last Wednesday. The Levante UD forward returned to action against Athletic Club after recovering from an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his right leg, and he did so in the best possible way, helping the team secure three important points and scoring the third goal.
The Levante attacker acknowledges the satisfaction in the locker room after the victory, aware of the importance of winning at home. “The team is very happy after this victory because we knew it was a very important match and at home. We needed those three points,” he explains. A result that also boosted the group's confidence after several matches where good performances had not translated into wins. “We were missing that extra push, that step forward that this match gave us. I think the team's confidence has grown steadily,” he notes.
The return to competition had a special meaning for Etta Eyong, who took advantage of the opportunity given by the coach to contribute to the victory and regain his rhythm on the pitch. “I’m very happy to be back. For me, the return was very difficult. When the coach gave me the opportunity, I thought I had to make the most of it to help the team get the three points,” he states. His goal, the third for the Levante team, also provided an extra boost of confidence to face upcoming challenges. “That goal also helped me gain confidence, relax more, and play more calmly,” he adds.
The forward recalled how he experienced the play that ended with the ball in the back of the net. After missing the first rebound, he was determined to try again at the next opportunity. “On the second one, I thought: ‘I’m going all in and let’s see what happens.’ When I saw the ball, I said: ‘That’s mine,’ and I pushed it in,” he recounts.
The joy of the goal wasn’t his alone. His teammates quickly came to congratulate him, forming a huddle that reflected the group’s satisfaction with his return and the goal. “When I saw all my teammates coming towards me, I didn’t even know what to do. I said: ‘Okay, I’ll just stay here,’ and we celebrated together. I couldn’t even celebrate the goal on my own,” he recalls with a laugh.
Levante UD is now focusing on their next match against Real Sociedad. The team will look to maintain the momentum from the last game and take another step forward to secure three points away from home. “We’re going to approach it the same way we approached this home game, trying to get the three points and aiming for that away win that has been a bit elusive for us,” the player concludes.
