Luís Castro takes charge of Levante UD in his first training session in Buñol
The first men's team, the coaching staff, and the club's personnel observed a minute of silence in memory of their colleague Delia Bullido García.
The new coach of Levante UD led his first session with the team this morning at the Buñol Sports City, where he had his first contact with the squad and began preparing for the match on January 4 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán against Sevilla FC corresponding to Matchday 18.
Luís Castro is already working as the coach of Levante UD. The Portuguese coach led his first training session with the team this morning at the Buñol Sports City, where he had his first direct contact with the squad and met all the players before taking charge of the group.
Luís Castro begins this new stage accompanied by his usual coaching staff, consisting of Jorge Cordeiro, Rui Cunha, and José Costa, who will serve as assistant coaches to the head coach and join the current staff formed by Vicente Iborra, Dani Ayora as goalkeeping coach, Iñaki Aizpurua, Vicente Benítez, and Carlos García.
José Costa has extensive experience in international professional football, primarily linked to performance analysis and working in top-level coaching teams. He began his career at Vitória Guimarães. He later transitioned to international football, becoming part of the coaching staff of Shakhtar Donetsk, where he worked for two seasons, and later of Al-Duhail SC in Qatar. His career continued at top-level clubs such as Red Star Belgrade, before taking on new challenges in the Middle East with Al-Markhiya SC. In the last two seasons, José Costa has worked in France, first at USL Dunkerque and more recently at FC Nantes, now as an assistant coach, thus taking a step forward in his professional development on the bench.
Jorge Cordeiro has extensive experience within the structure of SL Benfica, where he has worked for several seasons with various youth teams and the reserve team, gaining experience in both lower categories and Benfica B and the U23 team. At different stages, he has worked alongside Luís Castro, with whom he also recently collaborated at FC Nantes.
Completing the staff is Rui Cunha, who has spent much of his career at Vitória SC of Guimarães, a club where he has held technical roles for several seasons, both in the first team and in its youth structure, even temporarily taking on the responsibility of interim coach. His profile is complemented by previous experience as a match analyst and his recent stint alongside Luís Castro at FC Nantes.
