Levante UD has reached an agreement with Luis Castro to become the new coach of the first team. The Portuguese coach has signed until June 2027 and arrives from FC Nantes, after previously managing USL Dunkerque and developing part of his career in Benfica's youth academy.

Luis Castro (Portugal, 45 years old), trained in the Benfica youth academy, has established himself as a methodical coach and a specialist in individual improvement. His time in Lisbon culminated with winning the UEFA Youth League and the development of talents such as João Neves, Gonçalo Ramos, and António Silva.

In 2023, he took on the challenge of managing USL Dunkerque, leading one of the projects with the smallest budget in the French second division. Last season, the Portuguese coach had a historic season with the club: he fought for promotion in the playoffs and reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de France after eliminating rivals such as Lille and Brest. Additionally, he came close to the final after losing to PSG in a match where his team was leading 2-0 before halftime. His work did not go unnoticed in France, and after reaching an agreement between clubs, Castro was announced as the new coach of FC Nantes in June 2025, making the leap to Ligue 1.

Luis Castro is an analytical coach, with a recognizable playing identity and a strong commitment to an offensive style of football. His work stands out for the individual development of players and his ability to enhance young talent. Levante UD thus strengthens a project based on methodology with the aim of raising its competitive level and consolidating a recognizable identity.

The club wishes him the best of luck in this new stage at the helm of the granota bench.
