Levante UD reached an agreement with Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia “Rubi” (Vilassar de Mar, Barcelona, 01-01-1970) for him to be the new Levante UD manager for the rest of the season with an option for two more seasons in First Division.
Rubi has worked in the 3rd and 2nd B Divisions in Catalonia, as both a manager and a footballer.
He began his managerial role at his native Vilassar in 2001 in 3rd division. After stints at Hospitalet and Sabadell, he went on to manage RCD Espanyol B team for three seasons and achieved promotion to the 2nd B “Bronze” division after his first season there.
After a short time with Ibiza “Eivissa” and a great season with Benidorm, Rubi worked for Girona FC in 2011. After only one year at the club he took over the first team in the Liga Adelante (2nd A division) and despite an extremely low budget he led Girona FC to their best position ever, to the play-offs for the first division, where they eventually got knocked out in the final by Almeria.
His work at Girona was recognised by FC Barcelona when in 2013 they called him up to be part of the late Tito Vilanova’s technical staff, in charge of strategy.
Last season Rubi managed Real Valladolid, who qualified for playoffs for promotion to the first division.
